Call for nomination of experts in social and natural sciences for IPBES Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services – joint Swedish nomination process through SSEESS, KVA and Naturvårdsverket

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) seeks nominations for experts to participate in the Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. IPBES places a particular emphasis on reaching out to social scientists.

In addition, IPBES is seeking nominations to the IPBES Fellowship Pilot Programme, to participate in the Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. The IPBES Fellowship Pilot Programme targets early career experts who wish to gain experience by participating in the work of IPBES. More information on the IPBES Fellowship Pilot Programme and nomination process can be found on the IPBES website.

Swedish experts may be nominated by SSEESS, as member of the International Social Science Council (ISSC), or by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA), as member of the International Council of Science (ICSU). However, IPBES has a rule which states that 80% of selected experts must come from governments’ nominations. We have therefore agreed on a joint process with Naturvårdsverket (Swedish Environmental Protection Agency), who is the governmental focal point for IPBES and has some funding for travel support for participation in IPBES work.

Should you wish support for your nomination, please fill in the application form and in the section “B. Details of Government/Organisation supporting your nomination” indicate Government, Sweden, Cecilia Lindblad, position: IPBES National Focal Point, E-mail: cecilia.lindblad@naturvardsverket.se; Telephone: +46 10-698 12 95.

You can read the conditions and the detailed application process here
The deadline for nominations is 5 May 2016.
